CONSERVATION

Amazon Glamping’s headquarters are situated within a private nature reserve in the northern region of the Brazilian Amazon state, covering 667 acres of primary and lush rainforests that offer diverse natural habitats. This area serves as a vital sanctuary and, in conjunction with the APA Caverna do Maroaga (Environmental Protection Area), acts as a wildlife corridor for the incredible diversity of species endemic to the region.

In 2024, a primary objective is to establish a Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN) committed to preserving the pristine lands of Brazil’s biological diversity indefinitely. This voluntary commitment by the property owner aims to benefit the natural environment, future generations, and both local and visiting communities. The initiative will enhance opportunities for nature conservation and enable global researchers to study this remarkable region.

The forest reserve housing Amazon Glamping follows a strategic conservation plan, positioned at the eastern borders of the Balbina Dam reservoir and the Uatumã Biological Reserve. To the north, it adjoins the Indigenous Territory Waimiri Atroari, forming a critical part of the Amazonian conservation landscape. This reserve has been divided into distinct geographic areas, each with a specific function such as tourism, conservation, research, and monitoring. These areas are expertly managed by a dedicated team with diverse expertise in biology, conservation, management, education, ecotourism, and more.

RESEARCH

Amazon Glamping is deeply committed to making a significant positive impact on biodiversity conservation in the Amazon. All project-related activities are coordinated from our Brazilian Amazon headquarters in Presidente Figueiredo. In 2019, with the support of CENBAM (The Amazonian Biodiversity Studies Centre) and their PPBio (Research Program on Biodiversity) group, we initiated the installation of a RAPELD module to create a long-term ecological research site. This module will serve as a research station for scientists in the rainforest. Our primary goal is to educate local communities about the value of their natural resources and to enlighten the international community and visitors about biodiversity.

The research conducted contributes significantly to the region in various ways. The knowledge generated is shared with the guides at Amazon Glamping, enriching the experience for our guests and enhancing our environmental education projects. This effort directly and indirectly benefits society by providing information about the conservation of the region. The project aims to serve as a model for sustainable conservation that can be replicated throughout the Amazon.

Starting in 2024, the Physis Institute, a non-governmental organization, will collaborate with Amazon Glamping to actively participate in the conservation efforts of the crucial Amazon region. The lodge’s goal extends beyond delivering high-quality tourism; it aims to contribute to the conservation of the entire area, bringing direct and indirect benefits to local communities.

Additionally, researchers will have the opportunity to accompany our guests, facilitating the exchange of scientific knowledge and providing a unique learning experience through daily BioBlitz activities during the itineraries. The BioBlitz focuses on discovering and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period. Led by biologists, BioBlitzes offer a snapshot of the biodiversity at Amazon Glamping. Participants of all ages can learn techniques for observing and collecting plant and animal data within a designated area and timeframe. With smartphone applications like iNaturalist (iNaturalist.org), collecting species data is now more accessible and engaging than ever before.

The camp operates with solar power electricity and a biodigestor for a sustainable sewage treatment system, minimizing the impact on the environment and further promoting eco-friendly practices.

By staying at Amazon Glamping, you actively participate in our mission to inspire connections with extraordinary places, people, and the rainforest by enhancing access to the outdoors. This connection with nature contributes to healthier, happier individuals who become ambassadors for the environment—our most precious commodity. This commitment manifests in the design choices we make and the experiences we curate for our guests, upholding our mission in the following ways.

THOUGHTFUL INNOVATION

Pioneering the outdoor hospitality space in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest, we employ thoughtful enhancements across our camps designed to elevate the guest experience — through curated adventure programming, culinary innovation, and localized design aesthetic that reflects the surrounding natural environment.

UNPLUG AND RECHARGE

Wifi is intentionally not offered to our guests so that they can disconnect from technology and reconnect with others.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSCIOUSNESS

Guests will notice some design features throughout camp that go a long way towards sustainably preserving the great outdoors — installation of the camp in the respect of the surrounding vegetation, use of vegetable lianas instead of screws or nails, use of plastic (recycled) reduced to its minimum. Accordingly, our camps have a significantly lower environmental impact than any other accommodation of similar size. Additionally, low-level lighting is used throughout camps, mitigating light pollution and amplifying the night sky.

LAND CONSERVATION

Amazon Glamping camps are designed to minimize disturbance and maximize open space, each with dedicated, undisturbed green spaces. Land adaptive use and sustainability, and partnerships with local conservation organizations are also part of our commitment.
